6 Common Iftar Mistakes To Avoid This Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak! The much-awaited holy month of Ramadan is finally here! Muslims across the globe are gearing up for a month of fasting and praying. While we all are looking forward to being blessed by the holy month, we also cannot wait for the mouth-watering dishes that we’ll gorge on during Iftar. However, there are a few faux pas that people tend to make while having Iftar. Here are six common Iftar mistakes that you should avoid this Ramadan.

Listen, we know you’re extremely thirsty after fasting for an entire day. However, if you drink too much water, you won’t be able to eat enough. Besides, drinking too much water can also lead to indigestion.

2. Overeating

Overeating at Iftar is an extremely common phenomenon. And who can blame you? You’ve been hungry the entire day and now your dastarkhwan is covered with delicious food. But overeating at Iftar will lead to long-term health impacts and unnecessary weight gain.

3. Eating Oily And Deep Fried Food

This cannot be emphasised enough! Many people like to skip this part of Iftar and head straight for the fried stuff. However, eating more fruits will not only rehydrate you but will also fill you up and make you feel lighter. This will only help you fight that after-Iftar food coma.

5. Eating A Lot Of Salty Items

Eating a lot of salty items, especially during iftar can be dangerous. Your Iftari is already populated with a number of dishes that may be unhealthy. Adding salty food to the mix is risky. Besides health problems like palpitations and increased blood pressure, salty foods can also dehydrate you and make you feel thirsty.

6. Eating A Lot Of Sugary Items

Yes yes, we all have a sweet tooth and after a day of staying hungry, it is hard to control yourself with desserts. But remember, fasting is all about controlling one’s desires and not giving into temptations. So why not keep that philosophy in mind even when breaking fast? Too much sugar will only make your existing health conditions worse.
