Adventure junkies! We have rocking news for you. Himachal Pradesh government lifted the temporary ban on paragliding and river rafting. So, you can head to the hilly destination for your share of adventure sports again. Do keep in mind that the state continues to ban trekking on high-altitude mountains. Read on to know why.

Why Does Himachal Pradesh Temporarily Ban Adventure Activities?

Wondering why Himachal Pradesh temporarily bans adventure activities? Let’s fill you in on the details. Under the Himachal Pradesh Aero Sports Rules, 2004, and Himachal Pradesh Miscellaneous Adventure Activities Rules, 2017, paragliding and other adventure sports are banned from July to mid-September. This is because the monsoon season poses a threat to tourists dabbling in adventure sports.

Trekking Banned In High Altitude Mountains

Now that the monsoon spell is over, Sunayana Sharma, Kullu’s tourism development officer revealed to Times Of India that operators with valid licenses and equipment can restart these activities in the state. However, trekking in high-altitude regions in Himachal is banned until further notice. Due to heavy snowfall, the state banned mountain treks on peaks above 15,000 feet.

River Rafting & Paragliding Spots In Himachal Pradesh

Fret not! Meanwhile, you can certainly dabble in paragliding and river rafting in Himachal Pradesh. Some of the best paragliding spots in the state are Solang valley near Manali and Bandla Dhar near Bilaspur. For river rafting, head to Kullu. The prices start from just ₹500 per person. Other river rafting spots include Manali, Shimla and Mcleod Ganj.
