Ahmedabad is taking major steps to improve the quality and hygiene of the street food served to people. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has now launched a digital system that allows customers to submit feedback and complaints about street food vendors across the city. It will allow officials to keep an eye on the hygiene and quality standards of the food being served. Here’s how this system works.
Ahmedabad Launches QR-Based System For Street Food Vendors
Street food is a major part of India’s culinary scene. Every city across the country is known for its own specialities. But did you know what Ahmedabad is known for? The city is famous for delicious street food items like pav bhaji, ragda pattice, bhajiya, dal vada and more. To improve the quality and hygiene standards of street food, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has now started an interesting initiative.
According to The Indian Express, more than 8,700 street food vendors in the city have been registered under a QR-based vendor registration and monitoring system implemented by AMC. Customers eating at these stalls will be able to directly submit feedback and hygiene ratings based on cleanliness and food standards by scanning a QR code. Officials will carry out regular monitoring based on this feedback. Any vendor found violating cleanliness and food safety rules will face strict action.

Customers Can Access All Information By Scanning QR Codes
According to The Indian Express, monitoring will be easier because vendors had to provide all necessary details during the registration process. These include their name, GPS location, exact location, mobile number, business name, address, and ward name through an online form. After completing the registration, each street food vendor received a QR code and a PDF document.
Under this initiative, vendors must display a printout of the PDF at their stalls where customers can easily see it. Not just that, people can also access information related to the vendor by scanning the QR code displayed at the business. According to The Times of India, AMC has already affixed QR code stickers on around 7,200 street food carts, including 1,700 pani puri vendors.
