Amsterdam – The Trendiest Destination For Indian Travellers This Summer
The 5th annual Mastercard Economics Institute’s Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries is out and it has some interesting observations for Indian travellers. According to this report, Amsterdam has emerged as the top destination for Indian travellers this summer (June-August). It also revealed that Indians are spending more on travel in 2024, especially on the international front.

The report found that in the first 3 months of 2024, around 9.7 crore passengers travelled through Indian airports! There is a significant increase of 21% in domestic travel and a 4% rise in international travel as compared to pre-pandemic 2019 numbers. According to the report, “Those in the Asia Pacific region have a strong desire to travel.”
One of the biggest reasons for this surge in travel numbers is the increasing spending power of the middle class of India. The evolving spending habits and aspirational travel are contributing to this travel surge.

Top 5 Trending International Destinations For Indians In 2024
According to Mastercard Economics Institute’s ‘Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries’, the top five trending destinations for Indian travellers this summer are –
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Singapore
- London, United Kingdom
- Frankfurt, Germany
- Melbourne, Australia
Besides that, the report found that there is also a surge in visits to Japan, Vietnam, and the US, as compared to 2019. The number of Indian visitors in Vietnam has increased by 248%, the US by 59%, and Japan by 3%. In fact, data also shows that more than 50,000 Indians have already visited Japan this year!
