Assam’s Kaziranga Park Awarded India’s Best Wildlife Destination

The entire stretch of Northeast India is nestled with amazing locations. To recognise all that is there on this part of the country, Outlook Traveller awarded some of the best destinations – loved by travellers. When it comes to wildlife and quaint locations, Northeast is undoubtedly the best. Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, know for its one-horned rhinos was awarded the Best Wildlife Destination in India. Additionally, three other states in the Northeast – Sikkim, Meghalaya and Nagaland too, were lauded for their initiatives towards sustainable tourism.

Kaziranga, Best Wildlife Destination: What Makes This Location Special?

As per UNESCO, Kaziranga National Park is defined as one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds. As you drive from Guwahati, towards Kaziranga, you’ll notice the vast range of forests and greenery ready to woo you. Not only animals, but if you are a bird enthusiast, you will be witness over 400 species of birds in the entire area. And the rare species of birds can be exclusively spotted during specific seasons. As per sightings and report, if you visit Kaziranga during winters, black-necked stork, Asian openbill and greater adjutant stork can be seen.

What More On Northeast’s Destination?

Aside from Kaziranga, there are a few more states too, which were praised for their locations. These locations attract a lot of tourist, and especially, after the pandemic, northeast India destinations are a trend among mainland travellers. The destinations which were recognised for the Gold Awards were Meghalaya’s Mawlynnong and Nagaland’s Khonoma for best Eco-Tourism destination in India and best offbeat destination in India respectively. As for the best drive location, Sikkim had it with scenic locations like Lake Tsomgo and Nathu La Pass.

The Outlook Traveller, basically, with these awards wanted to understand the tourism sector and new trends after the pandemic.
