Can Airlines Deduct Flight Cancellation Fee? Passenger Claims ₹40,000 Deduction For Cancelled IndiGo Flight

Imagine booking a flight to your dream destination, only to find out that it has been cancelled. It can instantly ruin your excitement. Usually, airlines offer an alternative flight or a refund in such situations. However, a woman recently claimed she faced deductions of nearly ₹40,000 even after her IndiGo flight was cancelled. Read on to know what happened.

Passenger Faces Heavy Deduction After IndiGo Flight Cancellation

LinkedIn user Kanika Mohan Saxena took to her account to share her recent experience with MakeMyTrip and IndiGo. She mentioned that she had booked an IndiGo flight for July 3 to travel from Mumbai to Bali. As per the screenshots shared, her total booking amount was ₹1,02,928. However, later the flight got cancelled, and she was rescheduled, but it had an 18-hour layover, which was not suitable for her.

So, she got in touch with IndiGo customer support for better options, but she was informed that no alternatives were available. However, later she asked her travel agent for help and, with his assistance, she explored some alternative options with IndiGo for a route from Mumbai to Bali via Singapore. Unfortunately, that flight was also cancelled a few days later.

Kanika said she spent several hours speaking with customer service teams to resolve the issue. During these conversations, she was reportedly assured that she would receive a full refund because the cancellations had been initiated by the airline and not by her. She also claimed that MakeMyTrip’s chatbot confirmed that she was eligible for a complete refund.

Responding to the post, IndiGo said it had already initiated a full refund for the concerned booking and requested her to coordinate with the travel platform to claim the amount. The airline also apologised for the inconvenience caused.

MakeMyTrip also responded publicly, stating that it was reviewing the matter with the airline. The company later informed Kanika that the refund had been processed and that the details had been shared with her privately.
