Namratha Nandish, an HR manager at an IT company in Bangalore trekked to 50 high altitude lakes in Kashmir, nestled 10,000 feet above sea level. Despite suffering from arthritis, she created a record, by being the first woman to scale up to 50 high altitude lakes. The trekking community proudly named her “Alpine Girl”. Namratha Nandish Wanted To Trek 33 Alpine Lakes For Her Birthday

The resident from Bellandur, Bangalore revealed to PTI that nothing was pre-determined, Her husband, Abhishek, first told her about a trip to Srinagar to see the frozen Dal lake. Namratha Nandish researched well and decided to trek 11 lakes in Kashmir as a birthday gift for herself. Thanks to her work-from-home schedule, she was able to plan this trekking trip.  She started her trekking in mid-June by joining a trekking group to achieve her goal. Namratha started her trek with Tulian Lake, near Pir Panjal and concluded it with Shilsar Lake, high up in the Anantnag-Kishtwar area.

She Trekked 50 Alpine Lakes Despite Arthritis

The local trek leader, Syed Tahir, accompanied Namratha Nandish to most of the lakes. He revealed to the Economic Times that he was shocked that she wanted to trek despite her arthritis. But her doubts were cleared on seeing her determination. Namratha Nandish has become the first woman to complete 50 Alpine Lakes in one season spread across Kashmir valley. The Alpine Girl planned to cover 33 lakes for her birthday but went on cover 50.

Trekking & Solo Travelling Made Her Confident

The inspiring woman revealed that she suffered from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) at the height of around 13,000 feet at Murgan top. But her inner strength, support for her trek leader, Syed Tahir and her family, helped her achieve her dreams. Namratha has grown fond of Kashmir and the people, who are warm and hospitable.
