Karnataka is facing the highest rainfall in 90 years. This has led to severe waterlogging in India’s IT Capital, Bangalore. And there is no respite from the heavy rains as India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that North interior and Coastal Karnataka will witness heavy rainfall for the next 4 to 5 days. Amid the heavy rains, floods and waterlogging, Bangalore hotel room tariffs have skyrocketed to ₹40,000 per night in flood-affected areas.

Bangalore Families In Flood Affected Areas Shifting To Hotels

Families living in Bangalore’s flood-affected areas have been left with no choice but to shift to hotels. According to a report by Times Of India, Meena Girisaballa, the CEO and founder of PurpleFront Technologies had to shift to a hotel with her family on Old Airport Road after her swanky home in Yemalur got flooded. The family had to shell a whopping ₹42,000 per night for a hotel room in the flood-hit area.

Hotels Are Fully Booked With Exorbitant Room Tariffs

Hotel room tariffs in Bangalore have hit the roof. Rooms are now priced at ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 per night on average. This is two times the normal range of ₹10,000 to ₹20,000. Hotel rooms in flood-affected areas like Koramangala, Old Airport Road, Whitefield and Outer Ring Road are all booked. Families are shifting to hotel rooms after their luxurious villas and homes faced massive floods and even power cuts due to incessant rains. Some have even booked rooms for 10 days- the time it will take to clean and refurbish their homes. The sudden spike in demand for hotel rooms in flood-affected areas has led to skyrocketing tariffs.
