If there’s one thing this pandemic has taught us, it’s definitely to appreciate nature. Locked up in our homes for months together, it’s truly a breath of fresh air to walk amid lush green trees, smelling flowers and witnessing the beauty of birds and bees. Folks in Karnataka can witness colourful butterflies thanks to the Karnataka Butterfly Festival, which goes online. The 4th edition of the Karnataka Butterfly Festival will be a virtual one, held at Doreswamypalya Park in Bangalore from November 7 to 12.  And this year, it’s all about finding new butterfly species in Bangalore. Karnataka Butterfly Festival Goes Online This Year From November 7 To 12

Nature lovers! Gear up to spot a variety of striking butterflies during the virtual  Karnataka Butterfly Festival from November 7 to 12. This festival will be held in Karnataka forest department’s Doreswamypalya Park, situated along Bannerghatta Road in Bangalore. Nature lovers can take part in a series of virtual events. This includes talks on butterflies, photo exhibition, quiz, butterfly photo contest and crossword.

As reported by The New Indian Express, this year, the focus in on spotting new butterfly species in Bangalore. National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru Butterfly Club (BBC), Karnataka Eco-Tourism Board and Indian Foundation for Butterfly organises this festival. Butterfly experts can use this opportunity to share their findings in Bangalore this year. Many experts shared new species they discovered like the Little Tiger Pierrot, Alida Angle, Red Admiral and Orange Awlet.

Nature Lovers Can Take Part In Virtual Events & Witness Live-Streamed Butterflies On Social Media

Ashoksen Gupta, founder of BBC stated to TNIE, “These butterflies were never found in the city before but have been sighted after the lockdown — a clear indication that a drop in pollution only helps improve the environment. These species are extremely rare to find and have been breeding by the roadsides in Jalahalli, Makalidurga and GKVK.” Nature lovers can witness beautiful butterflies from the comforts of their home through live streaming on Facebook and Youtube.

Members of BBC will take a virtual butterfly walk along the Doreswamypalya Park. They will then live stream the fluttering butterflies for viewers. Ashoksen Gupta revealed tat taking the festival virtual is a good idea for social distancing purposes. Butterfly walks must also not have more than 10 people in a group for the betterment of the exercise and learning process.
