Braving Snow, This Himachal Postman Walks 32Km Daily To Deliver Letters

Being a postman is not an easy task, delivering letters door to door. No matter how hot, cold or rainy it is a postman cannot delay his work. Prem Lal, who is a postman from Himachal Pradesh proved the previous line and our hearts are filled. Every day, this dedicated postman travels 32 km to deliver the mail to people living in Lahaul’s far corners. 

Felicitated With Meghdoot Award

The Meghdoot award, established in 1984, is the Department of Posts’ highest national recognition for the overall performance and excellence of its staff. Awards are given in eight categories and come with a medallion, a certificate, as well as a cash prize of Rs. 21,000 each. Prem Lal who works as a postman in Himachal Pradesh was felicitated with the prestigious Meghdoot Award of the postal department. Prem Lal pledges to keep working for the people of his area after receiving the recognition from Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. A 32-kilometre-long section of the Udaipur Shalgran Mail Line of Lahaul is covered by Prem Lal every single day.

 Postman Completes His Risky To And Fro Journey 

Prem Lal is posted in the Mandi division of Himachal Pradesh as a Mail runner and travels over 9000 feet above mean sea level on difficult terrain. The region is snowbound for most time of the year and also holds the risk of avalanches but the dedicated postman completes his to and fro journey every day uninterruptedly. On this occasion, the government felicitated other seven employees and also launched Dak Karmayogi, a digital training portal developed by the Department of Posts for four lakh rural Gramin sewaks.
