Chennai’s Luxury Hotels Turn COVID Hotspots Since New Year’s Eve

Staycations are touted to be a safe option during the pandemic where we do not have to rub our shoulders with too many guests or travellers. But the fact is, the pandemic is far, and travelling is still a slippery slope. Since, a lot of us could not travel this year, we chose to pack our bags and head for that luxury staycation for the holiday season. And no matter how much we would like the believe that five-star hotels are safe, our worst fears have indeed come true. Around 85 people tested positive at Chennai’s ITC Grand Chola since December 15 turning the hotel into a COVID hotspot. And now, about 20 staff members of the Leela Palace, have tested positive for coronavirus. This goes on to show that events and gatherings are still risky.

Christmas & New Year’s Celebrations Caused The Outbreak

The New Year’s celebrations have caused a spike in the COVID cases, and the numbers are increasingly worrying. According to reports, a total of 125 hotel employees, including 114 from the star-category hotels, have tested positive. Hotel Employees Across The City Are Tested
