In March 2023, the Chennai-Delhi Vistara flight experienced massive turbulence that left passengers scared for life. In fact, one of the passengers took to Twitter to narrate his horrific experience. Another such incident took place with the SpiceJet flight that was flying to Durgapur. The turbulence was so severe that the DGCA suspended the aircraft pilot’s licence for 6 months.

In keeping with this, a Lufthansa flight flying from Austin (Texas) to Frankfurt was forced to land near Washington D.C. The turbulence caused at least seven injuries and hospitalisations.

According to reports, around three per cent of flights experience light turbulence whereas one per cent face moderate turbulence. However, a few tenths of a per cent experience severe turbulence! Most passengers who suffered serious turbulence-related injuries weren’t wearing seatbelts, frequently because they were using the lavatory or moving up or down the aisle.
