Amists all the façade of Delhi being the most polluted city in India and now estimated to be the most populated city in the world by 2028, the government is taking the initiative to build six new city forests by March 2019.
What Is It?
Apart from the existing six forests in and around Delhi, known as the ‘green lungs’ of the city, the national capital is about to get six new city forests under the green budget initiative of the Delhi government. The Environment minister was assured by the officials of the Forest and Wildlife Department of the target being achieved by March 2019, after which the six forests will be available for the public to visit.
A City Forest Management Committee will be formed to supervise and monitor the maintenance by December 2018, the officials have also taken the initiative to plant 20 lakh saplings across the city in the upcoming monsoon season. The public is also being asked to plant as many trees as possible and help the government in making Delhi green again.
