Passenger footfall is increasing rapidly in bustling airports, especially during the peak holiday seasons. Airports across the world witness millions of passengers arriving and departing in a month. Ever imagined what is the busiest airport in India, or rather the world? Well, the good news is that Delhi Airport is now among the world’s top 10 busiest airports.
Delhi Airport Made It To The Prestigious Global List
Airports are getting busier than ever, with passenger footfall increasing significantly. A recent report by the Airports Council International (ACI) revealed a major spike in passengers boarding flights to fly all around the world. It stated how 8.5 billion passengers caught flights in 2023, according to a report by The Times of India. The year 2023 witnessed a rise of passengers by 27.2 per cent in comparison to 2022. It also marked a noticeable growth in recovering from the pre-pandemic numbers in 2019. In comparison, the passenger footfall recovered by 93.8 per cent.
In the list of the world’s busiest airports, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has secured a rank. It bagged the 10th position on this global list in 2023, according to the information shared by the Airports Council International. Reportedly, the airport recorded a footfall of 72.2 million passengers last year. Though it is spectacular news for the airport and shows how the numbers are recovering, Delhi could not secure 2022’s rank of standing in the 9th position.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has continued to clinch the first position as the world’s busiest airport. In 2023, this airport saw a footfall of 104.65 million passengers. In comparison to 2022, 2023 reported an increase of 12 per cent. However, the numbers did not match the pre-pandemic year of 2019 yet.
