On his two-day visit to the Indian Ocean archipelago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the service will soon start between Kochi, Kerala and Male, the Capital of the Maldives. This initiative aims to boost tourism between the two nations. Also. this will be the first time passenger services will begin between the two countries via the Kulhudhuffushi atoll. Passenger-Cum-Cargo Ferry Services To Be Launched Between Kochi And Male Soon

As announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ferry services will soon start between Kerala’s Kochi and the Maldivian Capital Male via the Kulhudhuffushi atoll. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two countries for launching the passenger-cum-cargo ferry services from Kerala to the Maldives. The Route Will Cover Around 700 Km On Open Sea

According to a Financial Express report, the route will cover around 700 kilometres in the open sea through the Kulhudhuffushi atoll. The Kulhudhuffushi atoll is around 500 kilometres from Kochi in the open sea. The distance between Kulhudhuffushi atoll and Male is nearly 200 kilometres. The Financial Express report states that Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale has quoted, ”It is the first event in which are going to connect the Indian mainland to the Maldives with a regular ferry service(water transport) which will carry passengers and cargo both from Kochi via Kulhudhuffushi to Male and back”.The move will strengthen ferry connectivity between the two neighbouring nations.
