Tamil Nadu has recorded 23,310 Covid positive cases as of May 5, bringing the state’s total tally to 12,72,602. The steady rise in Covid cases in the state reveals that there are a large number of people in home quarantine. Infected patients might find it difficult to manage expenses and often struggle to arrange nutritious meals while battling a deadly virus. Just like in other states, Tamil Nadu also has a number of good samaritans who rose to the occasion to help those in need. Among them are two college students, who cook and deliver hot nourishing meals to home quarantined Covid patients in Erode.
College Students Cook & Deliver Meals To Covid Patients In Tamil Nadu
According to The New Indian Express report, Gowtham Bharathi and Gayathri, two students from Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University, deliver food to around 20 Covid positive patients in their district. The two students studying Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, have their friends to help out with logistics. Gowtham stated to TNIE that with colleges shut in March 2021 during the Covid second wave, he and his friend, Gayathri wanted to do their bit to help people. On realising that there were many people in home isolation, they came up with the idea of delivering home-cooked food to the needy. If you cant cook, you can still provide home-cooked meals to Covid patients.

How Can You Order Meals?
Gayathri revealed to The New Indian Express, “Currently, there are around 10 people in our team. We have divided ourselves into two teams for cooking and transportation. Most of them are our school mates and friends. We also got some volunteers through posts on Instagram. Based on the requests received daily, we ask each of them to prepare food for two to three people in their homes and deliver it.” The college students provide idlis for breakfast and dinner. For lunch, home quarantined Covid patients can get a variety of rice for lunch.

Gowtham revealed that they currently deliver food to Karungalpalayam, Surampatti Valasu, Moolampalayam and Rangampalayam areas.
