Ever dreamed of travelling between France and Germany, but your pockets did not allow it? Well, what if we say you can do that for free now, and the only criteria are to be under 27 years of age? Not at all joking! France and Germany are offering about 60K free train tickets to travel this autumn and summer. This new rail scheme is now open for applications, so go try your luck!
France And Germany Are Offering Free Train Tickets
Clément Beaune and Volker Wissing, the transport ministers of France and Germany, announced this new rail scheme earlier this year. The rail programme is now open for applications.
In order to build a cultural exchange between the two countries as well as encourage travel, they have launched this scheme. It is noted as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Elysée Treaty.
Clément Beaune added that this new initiative is in line with the climatic ambitions of France. It also aims to encourage more and more young people to take up rail routes. The scheme will be financially supported by Deutsche Bahn and SNCF.

First-Come, First-Serve Basis
About 30,000 tickets each from France and Germany have been released. These tickets will allow people to easily travel to other countries by train for free.
People under 27 in France and Germany are eligible to apply for these tickets, and the winners can select a 7-day period for their visit. All the tickets will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
The ones living in France can apply on the French site, and the ones from Germany can apply on the German site. You have to complete the registration form, and if they have tickets, they will email you. Between July 1 and December 31, this pass will be valid.
Once you’ve completed the registration form, if there are tickets remaining, they will be emailed directly to you. The pass is valid for travel between July 1 and December 31, 2023.
