Chief Minister Conrad Sangma revealed that there are plans to open a small museum in the capital city of Shillong. It is planned to be built in a portion of the historic old Assembly building. Additionally, according to Sangma, the government is making sure that whatever policies it develops do not place undue strain on particular tourism destinations. The goal of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) initiative, which was redesigned by the Ministry of Tourism in 2022–2023 with input from UTs and state governments, is to create responsible and sustainable tourism destinations through a destination-centric strategy.

The ministry, through the PRASHAD Scheme, has approved eight projects worth ₹256.45 crore for the integrated development of specified pilgrimage places in these states after realizing that religious and spiritual tourism is a significant driving force behind travel.

Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the Center approved sixteen tourism-related projects in northeastern states between 2015 and 2022. These initiatives, which were a part of the specialized northeast circuit and wildlife circuit, cost over ₹1,300 crore.

A large number of the projects approved under the SD 1.0 and PRASHAD schemes are already finished and made available for public usage.
