Mumbai City’s Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh announced that Maharashtra will re-open its gyms and salons from June 28. He added that guidelines and SOPs will be issued for the same. However, the state government hasn’t issued any guidelines on the allowance of religious gatherings in the state. The state took this decision has salon operators faced tremendous financial losses due to the months-long lockdown. They currently demanded either the reopening of salons or a government financial aid for their survival. Earlier 11 people were arrested in a Mumbai spa for flouting lockdown rules amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

Maharashtra Salons To Open From June 28, Only Hair Cuts To Be Allowed No Shaving

Amid the sharp spike in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government on June 25 decided to reopen gyms and salons across the state in 7 days. However, the MVA government has not taken any decision on allowing religious gathering in the state. On June 11, Mumbai police starting patrolling around the city on segway fleets to stop people from flouting lockdown rules. 

From June 28, salons will reopen in the state but will only provide haircuts to the customers. Shaving won’t be permitted. It is also mandatory to wear face masks. Similarly, cloth or towels used for one customer won’t be used for another. Mumbai City’s Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh also said that further guidelines for the reopening of gyms and salons will be issued later keeping in mind the social distancing norms.

Salon Operators Faced Huge Losses Due To The Coronavirus Lockdown

Since the start of the nation-wide lockdown on March 25,  all the gyms and salons in Maharashtra were closed to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus. Also, Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state from the deadly pathogen with so far 1,42,900 cases of coronavirus and a death toll of 6,739 in the state. To combat the rising coronavirus cases, Mumbai’s Mahalakshmi Race Course will be converted into a Covid Care Centre.  

Due to the nationwide lockdown for months salon operators in Maharashtra faced huge financial losses. They demanded that either they are allowed to reopen their salons for business or the government must provide them with financial packages. State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar informed media houses that around 12 barbers committed suicide in the last three months of the lockdown due to financial losses.

Maharashtra Salons And Gyms To Reopen In 7 Days With SOPs And Guidelines Followed

The minister states that he raised this issue in the cabinet meeting. The Chief Minister agreed to reopen salons in Maharashtra from June 28 with the SOPs put into place. Meanwhile, Mumbai city’s Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh reveals that gyms and salons in Maharashtra will reopen in 7 days. Reportedly he states “Talks were held with the owners of salons and gyms last week. The SOPs and guidelines would be framed in the next couple of days.
