After Indore, Hyderabad Certified Water Plus City Under Swachh Bharat Mission

Indore has been the flagbearer of cleanliness and bagged the title of the cleanest city in India for consecutive years. And now, Indore has added one more feather to his cap. Under the Swachh Survekshan 2021, it is also the first water plus city in India. If you are wondering what ‘water plus’ means, here’s what you need to know. And after Indore, Hyderabad has also been declared as a ‘Water Plus’ city. It has become the first city in Telangana to receive a Water Plus certificate. So, this means just like Indore, Hyderabad is also treating its wastewater to satisfactory levels before releasing it into the environment.

Indore Has Been Setting Benchmarks For Cleanliness

Indore carried out survey & halted 7,000 outfalls of greywater that went in rivers, drains. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted “Heartiest congratulations to the citizens of Indore as it becomes the first SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) Water certified city under #SwachhSurvekshan2021. Indore has been an example for the whole nation for its determination and dedication towards cleanliness. May it continue to bring glory to the state.”

Indore Has Successfully Recycled 30% Of Its Sewage Water

Swachh Survekshan launch as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission does an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in cities and towns across India. The award has been given to Indore for maintaining cleanliness in rivers and drains. According to the criteria, dirty water should not run into the river or the drain and 30% of sewer water has to be recycled and reused. The administration should also connect the public toilets to sewer lines and clean them thoroughly. Indore Also  Becomes The First Indian City To Be Selected For International Clean Air Catalyst Programme.

Indore has been successfully able to recycle its sewage water and emerge as India’s first ‘water plus’ city. It is time for other cities in the country to follow suit.
