India To Host Global Food Regulators Summit; Delegates From 40 Countries To Attend It

As a G20 event, the Global Food Regulators Summit will be held in Delhi for the first time in 2023. On July 20 and 21, 2023, at Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi, the summit will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, unveiled the Summit’s logo in front of Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prof. S P Singh Baghel. The summit is being hosted outside of Rome (Italy) for the first time this year.

According to the Union Minister, the important topic of food safety will be highlighted at the Global Food Regulators Summit. He further stated that this topic requires just as much attention as food security. He continued by saying that the conference would provide a forum for cooperation and coordination among food regulators from more than 40 countries.

The Union Minister added that he was confident that through joint efforts, the summit will result in strengthened regulatory frameworks. Also, he added the harmonisation of international standards for food safety, and the provision of safe and high-quality food for consumers all around the world.

Representatives From Diverse Fields To Attend The Summit

Representatives from 25 international research institutes and universities, and 30 international organisations will also attend the event. It is anticipated that numerous participants from the Summit will actively participate. In fact, these participants will represent a diverse spectrum of nations, international organisations, and national institutions.

Attendance at the summit by food regulators from G20 member nations will show their dedication to advancing food safety frameworks and regulatory systems.

Additionally, the Summit will offer participants a useful forum to discuss:
1. How to create a cohesive network around food safety and regulatory issues?
2. How to effectively understand compliance requirements?
3. How to share best practices, failures, and successes related to food safety norms and regulations?
4. How to identify opportunities for collaborative work to create synergies among international regulators/agencies?
5. How to develop tools and techniques for information sharing?
