Most of us have bought a plate of steaming Maggi with a cup of chai in the mountains from roadside sellers. But have you ever wondered what profit these vendors actually make from selling this delicious snack? A content creator recently asked a Maggi seller at Rohtang Pass about his monthly earnings during the off-season, which made us realise that “no business is small”. Here’s what happened.
Daily Earnings Of A Maggi Seller At Rohtang Pass

We have to agree that “pahadon wali Maggi” tastes a lot more delicious than the one we make at home. And this is the reason why every hill station in India has roadside stalls selling Maggi, chai and coffee. A video about a Maggi seller at Himachal Pradesh’s Rohtang Pass went viral after the vendor revealed that the stall generates ₹14,000 to ₹15,000 in daily sales, even during the off-season. This means his monthly turnover is nearly ₹4.5 lakh during the months that do not see too many travellers.
The video was posted by content creator Harsh Chauhan (@harshreturns) on Instagram, who went to Rohtang Pass and asked about the turnover. The seller revealed that even during slow months, he sells 60-70 plates of Maggi and 200 cups of chai, along with several extra food items like boiled eggs and omelettes. For 60 plates of Maggi (₹100 per plate), he earns around ₹6,000 per day. For chai (₹40 per glass), he earns around ₹8,000. This takes the total daily turnover to ₹14,000, excluding extra food items.

Running A Stall In The Mountains Is Not Easy
The viral video of the Maggi seller at Rohtang Pass sparked a discussion online. Many people mentioned that if he is earning this much during the off-season, he must be earning a lot more during the peak season. Harsh also said that this shows that “koi bhi dhandha chhota nahi hota”. And honestly, we agree.
However, many people also shared that running a Maggi stall at locations like Rohtang Pass is not at all easy. The vendors have to pay transportation costs, and there are also challenges like harsh weather conditions, raw material charges and more. But, keeping everything aside, we all know that a trip to the mountains is incomplete without buying Maggi and chai from one of these stalls.
