Are you someone who often books an Airbnb for your vacation? If yes, then you should know that Airbnb is changing its house rules to make stays much easier for travellers and stop hosts from asking them to do a long list of chores. Here’s everything you need to know before you book that stay of your dreams!
What Are The New Airbnb Rules For Guests?
Under the new Airbnb guidelines, hosts are prohibited from asking guests to perform time-consuming chores that are usually handled by professional cleaners. The new rules, which take effect on November 20, 2026, state that hosts cannot ask guests to strip beds before checking out, take out the rubbish, or wash or put away the dishes. According to The Economic Times, the revised policy aims to prevent unreasonable cleaning demands and make house rules clearer for travellers booking their stays.
However, this does not mean that guests can leave the property in a bad condition. Hosts are still allowed to ask guests to place the dishes in the sink and separate rubbish and recycling into designated indoor bins. The new rules will apply to reservations booked on or after November 20.

New Rules Announced Following Complaints From Guests
According to News18, Airbnb announced the new rules after many travellers complained that hosts asked them to complete lengthy checkout chores. Sometimes, guests also did these chores even though they had paid cleaning fees for their accommodation.
Apart from these changes, Airbnb also has a new section titled “House Rules and Requests”. Here, guests can see an organised list of “Host Requests” and “House Rules” in the Trips tab and reservation reminders. According to The Economic Times, the platform allows hosts to select from seven standard categories of house rules while setting up a listing. These cover expectations for guests, such as checkout procedures, maximum number of occupants, pet policies, noise restrictions, photography, smoking and other rules regarding parties.
