At present, many people are travelling abroad for work, studies, permanent relocation or holidays. Over the past few years, several countries have simplified their visa processes, while others have made them stricter. Now, if you’re planning a trip to Australia, you need to stay updated on the latest rules. In a recent update, Australia has expanded its biometric requirements for visa applicants in India. Scroll down for details!

Australia Expands Biometric Requirements For Indian Visa Applicants

From October 26, 2026, Australia is expanding its biometric requirements for visa applicants in India. According to Hindustan Times report, as part of the application process, some applicants will now have to provide their fingerprints and facial images. But don’t worry, if your visa was already granted before this date, this new rule will not apply to you.

This move aims to strengthen identity checks, reduce fraud and protect genuine applicants. With these new steps, the authorities will be able to verify a person’s identity and maintain the security of the country’s migration system. This process is already in place in nearly 60 countries, and now India will also be included.

Who Will Have To Follow These New Rules?

Not everyone has to go through this additional step. As per Hindustan Times report, the Department of Home Affairs, which manages Australia’s visa processes, will inform you if you need to provide biometrics. You will receive an email either directly from the department or through your authorised visa agent.

The department will also provide the necessary instructions on how to complete the process. The Australian government will keep applicants’ personal information safe by using secure, encrypted channels. Indian applicants should follow the instructions shared by the Department of Home Affairs and use official websites to arrange their biometric appointments.

So, if you’re planning to apply for an Australian visa, keep checking your emails and follow the official instructions carefully.
