Delhi’s Winter Pollution Plan: No Fuel Without PUC, Vehicle Curbs And 50% Work From Home

We are all aware of how serious the pollution problem is in Delhi, especially during the winter months. To tackle this issue, the Delhi government has introduced a permanent winter pollution control framework that will be implemented every year from November 1 to February 28. Read on to know more about it!

Delhi Introduces Permanent Winter Pollution Control Framework

The Delhi government has now come up with a permanent winter pollution control framework. As per The New Indian Express, this framework has been designed to make sure pollution-control measures are implemented on time every winter. The framework also includes rules from the revised GRAP guidelines issued by CAQM and directions given by the Supreme Court.

One of the key measures is that the government is getting stricter about vehicle pollution. How? If your vehicle does not have a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, you won’t be able to fill up with petrol, diesel, CNG or LPG. This rule will apply throughout the year. Authorities will check both physical certificates and online records.

Restrictions On Vehicles Entering Delhi

To reduce pollution, the government has also decided not to allow non-BS VI vehicles registered outside the capital to enter Delhi. This rule will be in effect from November 1 to January 31. As per The New Indian Express, however, CNG vehicles, electric vehicles, ambulances, emergency service vehicles and a few other exempted categories can still enter the city.

If you’re someone who prefers to use private vehicles, then you might need to think again. The government is going to double parking charges at authorised parking lots during winter. However, parking fees at Delhi Metro stations will stay the same.

Also, we have good news for employees. From November 1 to January 31, only half of the employees in government and private offices will work from the office, while the rest will work from home. However, people working in hospitals, emergency services, public transport, electricity, water supply and sanitation will continue to work as usual.

Apart from all this, the government is also taking necessary steps to prevent dust pollution. From November 1 to January 31, demolition work and construction activities will not be allowed. Between December 10 and January 20, only important public infrastructure projects can continue. Vehicles carrying construction materials will also not be allowed to enter Delhi during this period.
