Travelling between two important destinations associated with the Ramayana could soon become easier for tourists. India has executed a trial run for the proposed Ayodhya-Janakpur railway service, indicating a step towards constructing a direct rail connection between Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh and Janakpur in Nepal. Indian Railway Conducts A Trial Run For Ayodhya-Janakpur Train

The development was shared by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during his meeting with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah in Kathmandu on Thursday, reported ANI. The proposed railway service seeks to strengthen religious tourism and boost connectivity between the two neighbouring countries. Ayodhya is associated with Lord Ram, while Janakpur is regarded as the birthplace of Goddess Sita. Both destinations hold religious importance and attract pilgrims from India, Nepal and other parts of South Asia.

The proposed rail link could make it more accessible for devotees to visit both destinations as part of a single pilgrimage. Currently, tourists have to plan separate journeys to reach the two cities. A direct train service could ease travel arrangements and make cross-border religious tourism more accessible. Apart from pilgrims, the connection could also benefit local tourism businesses in both countries. Increased visitor movement could support hotels, restaurants, transport operators, handicraft sellers and other businesses that depend on tourism.

Although the trial run marks an important development, regular passenger services have not yet commenced. The final launch date and other operational details are still awaited. Information regarding the train’s schedule, ticket fares, immigration procedures and passenger arrangements is expected to be shared once the necessary preparations are complete.
