Northern Railways Takes Strict Action Against Ticketless Travellers

Northern Railways’ Jammu Division recently took strict action against ticketless travellers. Officials confirmed that last month, the division penalised more than 11,000 passengers across different routes. Through these penalties, the division collected around ₹67 lakh in fines. Officials said they increased checking on trains and at stations. Why? It helps to stop revenue loss and make sure people follow ticket rules.
In talks with CNBCTV 18, Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the drive aimed to support genuine passengers who pay for their tickets. He explained that the ticket-checking staff of Jammu Division carried out continuous checks throughout October. They conducted surprise inspections, checked random trains and monitored stations more closely.
What came as a shock was that the divisional checking team, along with Chief Ticket Inspectors, detected a total of 11,386 cases of ticketless travellers or travellers with irregular tickets. Railways then recovered the fine amount from these passengers.

Detailed Inspection Of The Jammu-Katra Railway Route
On Saturday, Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, conducted a detailed inspection of the Jammu-Katra railway route. The key purpose of this inspection was to review the operational condition of the route before winter kicks in. As per CNBCTV 18, officials said extreme winter weather can put pressure on tracks, tunnels, signalling and bridges, so timely inspection is important.
During this inspection, the manager checked tracks, signalling systems, tunnels and bridges along the 80-kilometre Jammu-Katra route. He visited different stations on this line, including Bajalta, Sangar, Manwal and Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan station. Officials said inspection teams examined the condition of all major structures carefully.
