India’s Richest Temple In Kerala Is Facing Financial Crunch & Here’s Why!

Kerala is the home to the richest shrine in India. Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Kerala is known worldwide for being India’s richest temple. In between all this wealth and glory, this temple is going through a rough financial shortfall. Despite being such a wealthy temple, Padmanabha is facing crunches in its finances. It is not the first time when this temple in Kerala is in talks about money-related issues.

In the past and recent years, this temple received huge amounts for maintaining the temple and developing the surroundings and the constructions and frameworks. Under the ‘Swadesh Darshan programme’, the temple received a sanction of  100 crores from the Union government in 2018 to work for the betterment of its construction around. Later in 2019, Narendra Modi inaugurated new developments and the infrastructure is in advancement at the moment. Now, the government is asking the temple authority to clear up the security bills. Also, the Supreme Court has ordered to present an audit of the last 25 years.

The Monthly Financial Plan To Run This TempleIs Huge!

As per the officials of this temple, it needs a monthly budget of 1.50 crore for the maintenance of the shrine. On top of this humongous amount, an extra amount is also required for the salary and payment of the staff and workers and the extra necessities. Over 250 commandos, more than 130 permanent staff, and 112 daily workers are in action to look after and protect this temple in Kerala.

It was the year 2011 when vault A of the temple in Kerala was opened for the last time. It is the richest temple in India and we cannot even imagine what amount of wealth is stored in the vaults. Though this is not an official announcement, various reports suggest that Vault A holds a wealth of approx 1 lakh crore. Vault B is still unexplored and it may contain the same or more amount of wealth, ornaments, treasury, and diamonds.

The temple faced a financial crunch last year as well. It went bankrupt the last time and the state government had to rescue it. They bailed out the temple and helped with loans quite a few times. As a result of such a situation, the temple started VIP tickets for the crowd. Each VIP ticket cost ₹500 and they did this to arrange and collect money.
