It’s Business Time! IndiGo To Get Business Class For The First Time On Long-Haul Flights

India’s largest carrier, IndiGo, for the first time, is all set to welcome a business class on its Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Starting mid-2024, IndiGo’s extra long-range aircraft, used for long-haul flights will have business class. While IndiGo is known for housing only economy class on all its narrow-body, the 220-seater A321XLR will bring a change to the carrier’s business model. Here’s all about the carrier’s first-ever business class.

IndiGo To Introduce Business Class On New Airbus A321XLR

According to Aviation A2Z, for the first time ever, IndiGo will have a business class in its new Airbus A321XLR. These 220-seater aircraft will be used for long-haul flights lasting up to 7-8 hours. Primarily, for destinations in the Far East and Europe. In the year 2019, the largest carrier in India, made an order for 300 aircraft from the A320neo family.

It’s expected that the carrier will use the new Airbus A321XLR to fly international routes. IndiGo will not just fly domestically but internationally as well in the near future. Also, the budget airline has over the years just operated a single-class cabin with economy tickets. In order to conserve fuel and maintain the aircraft weight, the carrier also kept away from installing ovens.

New Aircraft To Get Oven; Passengers To Get Hot Meals

Passengers over the years have eaten ready-to-eat noodles, upma and other dishes on board that just require hot water for preparation. But in the new A321XLR, the carrier is exploring a whole different business model. As per Aviation A2Z, IndiGo will have two classes—Business and Economy in its long-haul flights. While there are no announcements on the same yet, the Airbus A321XLR aircraft will be equipped with ovens, where passengers can purchase elaborate meals during their long-haul flights.

Earlier, IndiGo ranked the most on-time Asia Pacific airline, for the month of March 2023. The report stated that it ranked 4th among Asian low-cost airlines. Furthermore, the report by Cirium Aviation Analytics stated that the low-cost airline boasted an 89.02 per cent rate for On-Time Arrival (OTA).
