Japan’s Hokkaido Hit By A 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake, Tsunamis Not Expected

It seems that the frequency with which earthquakes are hitting regions around the world has increased. The series of devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria reduced parts of the two countries to rubble. Now, the region of Hokkaido is the latest of the places that have been shaken by an earthquake. A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the northernmost region of Japan.

Hokkaido Earthquake: 6.1 Magnitude On Richter Scale

The massive earthquake that struck this northernmost region of Japan measured 6.1 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Nemuro region of Hokkaido in Japan. The earthquake struck at about 10:24 PM local time.

5th Highest Level Of Intensity

According to the Japanese authorities, the seismic intensity of the earthquake was 5-lower. This is the fifth-highest level of intensity on the Japanese seismic scale. Not many details about the incident are known as of now but more details will follow soon. However, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said that the earthquake will not be followed by a Tsunami, which is a relief.
