On December 15, 2022, the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival 2022 began. The inauguration ceremony was attended by many politicians, singers, cricketers, and actors. Some of the big names include Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Governor Dr. C V Ananda Bose, actors Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, and Sourav Ganguly. Many known personalities from the Bengali industry were also present at the ceremony.

28th Kolkata International Film Festival 2022

The Kolkata International Film Festival 2022 was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Danseuse Dona Ganguly, a well-known Odissi dancer, performed a mesmerising Odissi dance. Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan spoke about the freedom of speech and censorship in the film industry over the years. 

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan expressed his thoughts about the narrow views that are driving social media these days. He also spoke some lines in Bengali, which made everyone smile. He was felicitated by Bengali actress Subashree Ganguly.

Celebrating The Beauty Of Cinema Across The Globe

The festival, which began on December 15, 2022, will end on December 22, 2022. This year, about 182 films will be screened at the festival over eight days. This will include 53 documentaries and short films and 130 feature films from 42 countries across the globe.  The Kolkata International Film Festival 2022 celebrates the beauty of cinema. 

All these films will be screened across 10 cinemas, namely Nazrul Tirtha 1, Nazrul Tirtha 2, Nandan 1, Nandan 2, Nandan 3, Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, Paschim Banga Bangla Akademi Sabhaghar, Radha Studio, Sirir Mancha, and Rabindra Sadan. Movies like “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,” “83,” etc. will be screened to promote sports and celebrate spirit in society.The festival is an opportunity for directors and actors to showcase and exchange cinematic ideas.
