India has metropolitan cities, technologically advanced industries and while the country has developed tremendously there’s one concern that continues to persist, the safety of women. Till date, women think twice before venturing out late even in metro-cities as the crimes against women continue to persist. According to the latest data released by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), Kolkata emerged as the safest city for women, out of 19 metro cities in India. Kolkata recorded the least number of sexual assaults on women. Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Patna in Bihar follow-through, with less number of assaults against women among the 19 metro cities. Kolkata Becomes The Safest City In India For WomenThe NCRB data reveals that Kolkata recorded the least number of sexual assault cases on women among 19 metro cities in India. It’s the safest city in India for women. The NRCB data stated that the victims who lodged sexual assault complaints in Kolkata in 2019, were above 18 years of age. The city registered 14 cases of sexual assaults in 2019. Kolkata has not recorded any attempt to rape or sexual harassment case.

News agency PTI reports that Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore also has recorded zero cases, just like Kolkata. Patna in Bihar is another city to record lesser number of cases. Patna recorded 12 harassment cases in 2019. Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Patna in Bihar are the two cities that recorded a lesser number of sexual assault cases. There was only one such case at Coimbatore while only cases were recorded in Patna. But the number of cases of sexual harassment was 12 in Patna which is zero for both Kolkata and Coimbatore.

Rajasthan Is The Most Unsafe State In India For Women
The NCRB data reveals that Delhi registered 12,902 cases of crimes against women in 2019. Mumbai Police registered 6519 cases. Uttar Pradesh is the state with the highest number of crimes against women. It registered 59,853 cases. Rajasthan came second with 41,550 cases. And Maharashtra ranked third with 37,144 cases. Police state that better and efficient policing is one of the reasons why Kolkata has become the safest city for women.

The city has more awareness about such cases as well. The NCRB data shows 59 cases of rape took place at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh in 2019. Delhi tops the list with 1231 cases. Rajasthan emerged as the most unsafe place for women. Apart from the staggering number of rape and assault, the state registered 18,432 cases of domestic violence.
