The stunning winter destination of Lahaul –Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh is celebrating a 2-month long snow festival. Think snow sculptures, traditional costumes, utensils and winter sports. Lahaul-Spiti valley is bathed with soft white snow. And this winter festival is a great way to attract tourists to the region since due to the coronavirus lockdown there has been a major fall in the number of tourists visiting the region. Winter Festival In Lahaul-Spiti Attract Tourists

Pankaj Rai, Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul-Spiti, stated to The Outlook, “Earlier, during winters, the people of the region were cut off from the rest of the world. During that time the only major activity they indulged in was partaking in rituals and attending winter festivals held in different parts of the valley. Now, we have tried to combine all those winter activities and showcase them on one platform.” This snow festival will run for 2 long months, it’s also the longest snow festival in India.

Stunning Snow Sculptures In Lahaul–Spiti District’s Snow Festival

A snow craft competition was also organised as part of the snow festival in Lahaul and Spiti district. Students from Government Senior Secondary School, Keylong craved intricate snow sculptures and showcased their skills to the school. This festival also promotes traditional sports like tug-of-war on snow, archery, and‘chholo’. This snow festival also has traditional attire and utensils on display.  Lahaul and Spiti’s tribal art, cuisines and culture will also be on display.

Earlier, Himachal Pradesh government banned visitors from entering the Lahaul-Spiti region due to rising Covid cases. But now that the cases are dropped.
