Kuwait is adding more places to stay, skate, and catch a film. The country’s Municipal Council has approved plans for two transit hotels at Kuwait International Airport’s new Terminal 2, along with changes to the Messilah Beach 2 development that bring a cinema and ice-skating rinks into the plan. The decisions were taken on Monday, 2 November, at the council’s 28th regular session of its fourth legislative term, chaired by Abdullah Al Mahri, according to Al Seyassah newspaper as reported by Gulf News.

Two Transit Hotels At Terminal 2

The Ministry of Public Works asked to split the space first set aside for a single transit passenger hotel into two separate ones. One will sit in the eastern wing and the other in the western wing, and both will share the 7,500 square metres that had already been approved. The council did not allow any increase in the terminal’s built-up or commercial space, and every other requirement from the original approval stays in place. The report names no hotel operators and gives no opening dates.

Messilah Beach Gets A Cinema And Ice Rinks

The revised Messilah Beach 2 plan covers roughly 70,334 square metres. Five per cent of the site, about 3,517 square metres, goes to commercial use such as shops, restaurants and cafés. Another 15 per cent, about 10,550 square metres, is set aside for recreational, educational, training and indoor sports facilities.

What Could Be Built There

The proposed attractions include a cinema, theatres, ice-skating rinks, water activities, indoor and outdoor play areas for children, museums, exhibitions and sports courts. The plans also provide for a health club, festival grounds and event spaces.

What Has To Happen Next

Approval from the council is not the final step. Detailed development plans must be cleared by the relevant authorities before any construction permits are issued. The developer also has to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance over the existing contract and secure approval from the Interior Ministry’s General Traffic Department. No construction or opening timeline has been shared.
