Seems like monsoon flooding isn’t the only problem the city of Mumbai has got going on. There’s also the issue of never-ending garbage littering Mumbai. From the sea to the streets, the entire city is having a hard time dealing with the amount of trash it produces. And as if it was karma only, the Arabian sea washed up tonnes of garbage onto Mumbai’s shoreline. Get more details here.

What Happened?

As much as 2,15,000 Kgs of garbage was washed ashore Mumbai by the Arabian sea during high tide. It’s like all the garbage we ever put in it, was returned with a ribbon on top. As a result, the beaches in the city look no less than a sea of garbage. And that coupled with the rain, is not a great combination, to say the least.

The most iconic and popular spot in Mumbai itself, Marine Drive, received about 9000 tonnes of garbage littering the otherwise well-maintained roads of this area. Need we say more? It’s no wonder that Mumbai’s marine life came up as the most polluted one in the whole world!

What Next?

This is a warning sign we must heed or else soon there shall be garbage in our very homes as well. Polluting the sea is not a joke and we need to stop right away. Awareness needs to be spread amongst all so we can take care of our environment and reduce our trash as much as possible.
