It is not the easiest task to find public transportation facilities that are not only comfortable but also affordable. Amid so many options available nationwide, metros are the best transport option as they are both budget-friendly and offer great services. Metro authorities continue introducing new initiatives to offer better connectivity and improved travel experiences to passengers. Mumbai Metro is also taking significant steps towards better journeys by furthering the development of new metro lines.
Metro Lines 5 And 9 To See Major Development
New metro lines 5 and 9 reported a breakthrough. According to a report by Hindustan Times, these lines will run in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s eastern and western parts. Recently, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) prepared and took key steps to elevate the next phase, the second phase, of metro lines 5 and 9.
The MMRDA executive committee discussed finalising key plans and conclusions for metro projects. The committee decided everything on Wednesday. First, MMRDA’s planning and implementing agency approved assigning and hiring contractors needed for design and supply. The process also involved approvals for detailed construction of the interiors in Anjurphata, Balkum, Dhamankar Naka, Kalher, Kasheli, and Purna metro stations.
In a conversation with the Hindustan Times, an official of MMRDA stated that they have finished 87 per cent of construction on Metro Line 9. Next, they have started working on implementing multi-modal facilities at eight metro stations. This is a crucial step for ensuring safety and better last-mile connectivity. Contractors got their tenders in different packages as well.

Updates About These Lines
Mumbai Metro Line 9 spans about 11.386 km and is an extended part of Line 7, starting from Andheri to CSIA and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander. 11.386 km is elevated covering eight stations named Dahisar, Kashigaon, Miragaon, Meditiya Nagar, Pandhurang Wadi, Sai Baba Nagar, Shahid Bhagat Singh Garden, and Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium. The rest is underground.
Also, MMRDA is done with 89 per cent of the project of Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro Line 5. The next vital step is additional structural work. Different enhancements of metro stations are a part of this project such as entry points, exit structures, and plumbing works among others.
