People, Schengen Visa Application Process To Be Fully Digital! Deets Here

Each country has its visa that you have to apply for to travel to the respective country. However, to travel to Europe, you need just one Schengen Visa — well, at least to travel to the member states of the Schengen Area. But irrespective of that, applying for a visa is a tedious process and takes several visits to the consulate. But the ambassadors of the member states have agreed to negotiate regarding the mandate of making the application process for Schengen Visa digital!

If you are planning to travel to multiple countries in Europe that are a part of the Schengen area, then you apply for a Schengen Visa. This allows you to enter, and freely travel within and to other Schengen countries. And the best part is that there are no borders within the Schengen zone. And to enhance your travel experience, the member countries are planning on digitising the visa application process.

According to the Swedish Minister for Migration, digitisation will not only make the process simple for travellers but ensure their legitimacy. It will be easy to identify falsified documents since everything will be online. Moreover, it will save a lot of time since the number of trips to the consulate office will be reduced.

European Council’s Statement On The Matter

According to the European Council, they are creating a visa application platform through which people will apply for Schengen Visa and will be directed to the respective national visa platform. Everything from uploading relevant documents to paying visa fees will be done online via the website. There won’t be the need for in-person meetings except for the first-time consulate or for applicants whose biometric data is invalid. The status of the applicant’s visa application will be notified online as well.

This proposal was put forth on April 27th 2022, and nearly a year later, the member states agreed on the digitisation of visas. This will be great seeing that many people are opting to travel and they will be able to apply for visas easily.
