Pune Employs Flying Squads To Inspect Restaurant & Bars Flouting Guidelines

The coronavirus outbreak has been giving a tough time to Pune city, and the district administration wants to make sure that the citizens abide by all the rules and guidelines. The administration had decided to slap fines on restaurants and bars flouting coronavirus prevention norms. To monior the restaurants, flying squads have been appointed to carry out random inspections and violators will be fined up to ₹50,000.

Hotels & Restaurants Can Only Operate In 50% Capacity

The city had reported a surge in Covid-19 cases during the Ganesh Chaturthi festivals as the police did not impose fines for violation of norms. The rise in Covid cases after the festival had put pressure on the healthcare system. Therefore, flying squads had to be brought in to monitor bars and hotels. While the intention is not to impact the hotel industry, it is just to ensure that these establishments function within the 50% customer capacity. Police Officers & PMC Staff Will Be A Part Of The Squad

Police officers, excise department personnel, PMC, and hotel association representatives would be part of the squad. In the rural parts, revenue department officials would also join the forces. If the same establishment violates the norms repeatedly, the administration will suspend the licence for running bars. The squads would mainly monitor customer capacity, disposal system, waiting areas, ventilation, and entry and exit facilities.

Special Teams Formed To Increase Hospital Bed Capacity

While the pandemic situation has stabilised in the city, and adequate oxygen supply stock is available, the administration is alert and improving bed capacity every day. Special teams have also been formed to increase bed capacity in the city and district. More than 600 beds have started functioning in jumbo Covid facility.
