The Pune Railway Division will resume the Pune-Lonavala local trains from October 12 for essential service providers. According to the Central Railway officials, the Pune Police will issue QR code-enabled passes to those who can avail of the services. The local trains in Pune remained shut for around six months in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the local trains running between Pune and Lonavala are all set to resume from mid-October. However, only two to three local trains will operate only for the providers of essential services. Lonavala will also get a brinjal-themed car all the way from Hyderabad.
Local Trains From Pune To Lonavala To Start Services From October 12
The Maharashtra government has extended the lockdown in the state till October 31, allowing restaurants and bars to open up. Along with these relaxations outside the containment zones, the state government also permitted the resumption of local train services in Pune. The trains will resume services from October 12. The guidelines stated, “Local trains in Pune region can resume services as per the protocol and procedure followed in MMR region. The Commissioner of Police, Pune will be the nodal officer to coordinate the same.” Manoj Jhawar, PRO, Pune Division, said, “The timings of the service and frequency will be announced in a few days.”

Only Two Or Three Trains Will Operate In The Initial Phase
As per TOI reports, an official of the Pune railway division said, “Officials of the Pune Rail Division had a meeting with the Pune police commissioner. The latter has been named the nodal officer by the state government to resume and coordinate the local train movements from Pune.” He added, “A draft proposal on the ways to start the train services would be prepared by the commissioner’s office and shared with the railway division soon. Once the rail division approves, the final decision will be taken.” The authorities are planning to commence the services with two or three trains in the initial phase.

Only government employees and those engaged in essential services can avail the services of these trains. There have been some exceptions of lawyers, students and tiffin providers, who have also been given QR coded passes.
