The nation is grappled with the terror of the deadly coronavirus. A fixed cure to combat this rapidly spreading disease hasn’t been found yet. Social distancing and self quarantining are some of the only ways to combat this virus. India currently has around 415 positive cases of coronavirus and 7 deaths. The government has been appealing to the citizens of the country, over and over again to opt for work from home, refrain from visiting crowded places, and keep one and one’s surroundings sanitized. But time and again these appeals have been falling on deaf ears. The people of Punjab have been defying lockdown orders, leaving no other choice for the government but to impose a curfew on the state to combat coronavirus.

What’s In It?

The Punjab Government has imposed a curfew on the state on Monday, 23rd March to combat coronavirus. This is the first state in India to take such drastic action. But the government has done this after discovering that many people have ignored the lockdown ordered and are venturing out in the streets.  The authorities have enforced a state-wide lockdown which comes into effect on Monday and will last till 31st March.

What’s More?

A Senior official stated that curfew has been imposed in Punjab as people were coming out in large numbers. So is an idea to compulsorily keep them inside. The spokesperson also stated that deputy commissioners have been asked to issue necessary orders. This decision of a curfew has also been taken as the coronavirus cases in Punjab have spiked to 21 with one death. Since people haven’t been following the orders on lockdown, a curfew with essential stores like medical and grocery shops being shut down is a way to keep people quarantined in their homes and for the state to battle coronavirus in a better manner.
