Retired Australian Couple Booked 51 Consecutive Cruises, Spent Almost 500 Days Sailing Globally

When someone talks about retirement plans, the first thing that comes to mind is a beautiful small house right amidst mountains away from the city’s hustle and bustle, isn’t it? But this Australian couple thinks a bit differently, it seems. This couple actually booked about 51 back-to-back cruises and has spent about 500 days sailing across the globe! What is more shocking is that the couple plans to do this more!

Retired Australian Couple Booked 51 Consecutive Cruises

A retired Australian couple, Marty and Jess Ansen, embarked on a journey of 51 consecutive cruises on the Coral Princess. Their journey began on June 16, 2022. While retirement normally symbolises taking rest and relaxing, this couple had different plans altogether.

The couple were seasoned sailors before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. They had to sit back at home for two years because of the strict rules during the pandemic in Australia. The couple couldn’t wait to get back to the sea.

Their stay of over 450 days on board Coral Princess has surpassed the number of days spent by most of the crew, captains, and passengers. This decision by them came from their love for cruising as well as from the fact that they wanted to make up for the lost time due to the pandemic.

This retired Australian couple mentioned that they found that this booking was way cheaper than the nursing home. After learning this, they asked their travel agent to book whatever was available at that point.

The couple loves hula dancing and ballroom dancing, apart from leisurely sipping beer and playing morning ping pong matches. The hotel managers actually recognise them as celebrities on board because of their enduring presence on the cruise.

Many times, they go out of their way to welcome every new captain on board. The couple does not feel any regret for missing their family time. They say that their family is busy in their own lives, and they together want to cherish this sailing time.  (As per A Current Affairs)
