Sikkim Hit By An Earthquake Of 4.3 Magnitude; Second In The Northeast Within 24 Hours

After a series of devastating earthquakes rocked the countries of Turkey and Syria, now the northeastern region of India seems to be suffering a similar fate. An earthquake of 4.3 magnitudes on the Richter scale was measured 70 kilometres northwest of the Yuksom region in Sikkim — the second earthquake felt in the northeastern states of the country. The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) tweeted details of the two earthquakes.

Sikkim Hit By An Earthquake Of 4.3 Magnitude

An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale recently shook the northeastern state of Sikkim in India. The National Centre of Seismology tweeted the details of the earthquake felt in the region. It struck today on the 13th of February, Monday at 4:15 in the morning. The epicentre of the earthquake was 70 kilometres northwest of the Yuksom region in Sikkim. This particular earthquake was 10 kilometres in depth.

This is the second earthquake in the northeastern states of India within 24 hours. On Sunday, the 12th of January, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale shook the Nagaon region of Assam. This first earthquake occurred at 4:18 in the afternoon. Parts of Bhutan and Bangladesh, also felt tremors of the earthquake, according to reports.

Third Earthquake In India Within 48 hours

The earthquake that struck Sikkim today was the third earthquake in India within 48 hours. The first earthquake was in the Surat district of Gujarat. It was felt around 12:52 AM, during the middle of the night. On the Richter scale, the magnitude of this particular earthquake was 3.8.

The epicentre of this earthquake was some 27 kilometres west southwest (WSW) of the city of Surat in Gujarat. The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) released the details of the earthquake.
