Old Dubai is flooded with a whole lot of Indian restaurants, which are friendly on the pocket and the palate. One such restaurant which has been winning the hearts of foodies for over 40 years now is Sind Punjab. The restaurant serves authentic Indian cuisine, instantly transporting you to the by-lanes of Punjab.
The Sind Punjab Story
The restaurant was launched in 1977, by late Harban Singh, who previously owned a meat shop in Dubai. When it opened, Sind Punjab was the only restaurant to serve authentic Mughlai food. In no time, the eatery shot to fame and had foodies flocking back for its butter chicken, dal makhani, pani puri, kulfi, falooda and many other dishes. After Harban’s in 1991, his nephew Guruwinder Singh and other members of the Singh family have kept the business alive.
Besides, back then, Sind Punjab was the only restaurant that was open until 3:00 am, satiating mid-night cravings to the expats in Bur Dubai.
What’s On The Menu?
On the restaurant’s menu, foodies can binge on all kinds of delectable Indian dishes. Whether you are a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, the restaurant has something to satiate your craving. From butter chicken to chicken tikka, paani puri, sev puri, and falooda, foodies can pick from a wide range of options. Kick off your culinary journey with a Tandoori kebab.
Once your appetite is warmed up, move on to the main course where you’ve a host of rotis, kulchas and rice options to pick from. The rotis range from garlic roti to pudina roti, roomali roti, makkai roti and much more. If you prefer an authentic Punjabi meal, try their aloo kulcha, gobi kulcha or the masala kulcha. And if you’re more of a rice eater, try their mutton, fish or chicken biryani or simply order steam rice with a thick chicken gravy to go with it. The restaurant happily retains its old world charm not just in its ambience, but with the pricing too. When the restaurant opened, a portion of dhal was priced at AED 3. Even today, the chaats in the restaurant cost under AED 10. A plate of vada pav would cost you AED 4, while you can binge on pakoras and samosas for AED 4 and AED 2 respectively. No wonder, Sind Punjab has garnered loyal customers!
