Soon Reach Vaishno Devi In Just 12 Mins, Thanks To The New Ropeway

Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites here in India. We all know it is not at all easy to trek all the way to the holy shrine. But now, here is some good news for all the devotees who wish to visit the temple. The government has finally started the construction of a passenger ropeway project which is worth 250 crore.

You Can Soon Reach Vaishno Devi By Ropeway

The government has started the construction work for the new ropeway between Tarakote and Sanjichhat at Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra. The aim of this new development is to make the Vaishno Devi yatra for all the pilgrims a satisfying and comfortable experience. The ropeway will be approximately 2.4 km long and will reduce your travel time to only 12 minutes, which will save both time and effort for the devotees.

The journey will start from Tarakote, which is near the Katra base camp, and end at Sanjichhat, less than a kilometre away from the temple. It will have a capacity of 1,500 persons per hour and a Gondola cable car system. The work must be executed, operated, and maintained on a BOOT (build, own, operate, transfer) basis within 36 months of the contract’s award.

The Ropeway Will Help In Making the Journey Comfortable And Easy

The Vaishno Devi Temple is situated in Reasi district, 5,200 feet up in the Trikuta Mountains. In 2022, over 91 lakh pilgrims had made their way to the revered temple, most of them trekking approximately 12 kilometres from the base camp at Katra. Many people find it difficult to trek this distance due to its steepness. Elderly people and people with disabilities generally use palkhis or ponies to reach the shrine.

The ropeway will act like a boon for all these people and make this journey way more comfortable and easy for them. It would not only preserve the local environment but would also prove to be a top tourist attraction because it would allow visitors to see the entire scenic valley from above. The pollution due to waste and garbage on the trek path will also be reduced.
