The most memorable times of all students are usually spent here. After all, what’s better than having fun with your friends in the company of scrumptious food. With the academic session kick-starting in Delhi’s Colleges, we are here with a list of best college canteens of Delhi University. This will surely come handy (to all freshers) during your lunch breaks and mostly, bunks.

1. Hindu College

The Hindu College canteen is known for its pocket-friendly( ranging from ₹5 to ₹50) delicious dishes. The canteen offers a wide variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Yes, it is one of the rare college canteens in Delhi, that serves non-vegetarian food. It’s mostly known for its North Indian and South Indian food. The Paranthas, Rajma Chawal & street food items like Bhelpuri, Gol Gappe chaat are some of the most popular dishes here.

2. Lady Shri Ram College

LSR is known for serving a variety of cuisines in its canteen. It’s popular among the students for serving some of the best non-veg dishes on campus. From mutton dosas, pizzas and hot dogs, to cheese macaroni and vada pav, there’s plenty to choose from. South Indian delicacies like Lemon rice and tomato rice are also served with their signature chutney and sambhar. What also makes this place special is that they prepare a different sweet or savoury dish each day, ranging from the usual vanilla or chocolate cake, brownies to even pizzas and hotdogs.

3. IP College For Women

IP College is known to have the best college campus among all the DU Colleges. It also manages to have a very decent canteen as well. The canteen offers a wide range of snacks like cheese maggi, bread paneer pakoda, chhole bhature, spring rolls, South Indian food, thali, fresh fruit juice, coffee etc. They also provide packaged food for hygiene conscious people. The cherry on the cake is the popular ‘Chaat ka thhela’ right outside the college gate. It serves papdi chaat, bhelpuri, aloo tikki, kulcha roll and bun-tikki all at just 20 bucks!

4. St Stephens College

This isn’t your usual canteen (don’t ever call it that), it’s a ‘cafeteria’ – that’s how Stephanians call it. The café has a grand, old-world charm to it, something you’d notice from the moment you’d step in. It gives you colonial coffee-house vibes. You can choose from a variety of delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that are oh-so-affordable. Stephen’s cafe is famous for its mince cutlets and chicken curry rice dishes and dill pickle sandwiches. Another must-try dish is the scrambled eggs with toast.

5. Delhi School of Economics

The DSE canteen deserves a special mention for being students favourite for the longest time. The little cafe outside, as well as the canteen, is always buzzing with students. Be it the mutton dosa, mutton cutlet, masala coke or the egg curry, there is something for everyone here. And not to forget that the iced tea is really refreshing at the little cafe outside. Also, the prices are just as delightful and reasonable.

6. Miranda College

Miranda House is the boss college when it comes to top-class facilities. It’s known for its traditional architecture and its canteen is no less as it serves a variety of cuisines and unique fusion dishes that are sure shot crowd-pullers. It’s their food that people talk about after passing out of College. Their most lip-smacking fusion dish is the Paneer Dosawich which is a combo of dosa and sandwich with paneer.

7. Sri Venkateswara College

Millennials call it ‘Venky’. It can’t be left behind when talking about the best canteens in DU. Known for its strictly vegetarian canteen, it serves South Indian and street food dishes like Aloo Tikki, Samosas, Masala Maggi, Fried Rice & Chai. Among these, the idli, vada sambhar and dosas are a hit and can be spotted here on each table. Changing their menu according to the climate, they also serve sweet dishes including Jalebis at times, enjoyed much like a heavenly combo that never gets monotonous.

8. Kirori Mal College

KMC’s canteen is one of the biggest canteens across the North Campus. It has a great seating space accommodating approximately 200 people. It serves a good variety of food plus the quantity of their food is most talked about. The dishes here are pocket-friendly too. Chinese samosa and chhole bhature are must-try dishes when you’re here.

9. Hansraj College

Hansraj College is one College that we all have had a look in movies whether we studied there or not. Its canteen has a large hall that can seat more than 150 students. The self-service counter is tastefully decorated with a billboard in bright red. This canteen is a place where you can drink loads of cold coffee and have steaming hot spring rolls. Add some comfort food to the mix and still not spend more than 100 bucks. Make sure you don’t miss this one.

10. Ramjas College

When it comes to canteens, Ramjas prides itself on its three-floored canteen, one of the floors being air-conditioned. Their menu offers chhole bhature, rajma, chhole rice, pasta and french fries, etc. It also serves fresh juices & regional dishes from varied states keeping in mind the wide diaspora of students, the specialities ranging from the Chinese to North Indian Thalis. But their must try dishes includes- rajma rice, hot samosas and kadhi rice.
