3 Stunning Waterfalls In The Middle East You Have To See To Believe

We can all agree that waterfalls are one of nature’s most beautiful sights, no matter where our travels take us. They can even enhance existing beautiful settings, contributing to the ambience that entices visitors to explore the wilderness. Many people believe that awe-inspiring waterfalls can only be found in tropical locations or foreign lands, however, the Middle East contains some spectacular waterfalls worth seeing. Let’s look at four of them in detail.

1. Ma’in Waterfall, Jordan

Jordan has a number of fantastic tourist attractions, but none compare to the Hammamat Ma’ in complex, which is located in Wadi Zarqa. The valley is an oasis amid a desert setting known for its lush flora, mineral springs, and, of course, the waterfall. The water flows towards the Dead Sea as the waterfall cascades down the mountain. Romans are known to have bathed in the valley’s springs in the past.

2. Afqa, Lebanon

Afqa is a waterfall in the Lebanese city of Byblos, also known as Jbeil. It has a fascinating storey to tell. As water gushes out of a limestone cave to produce Lake Yammouneh below, the name “Afqa” loosely translates as”source.” In fact, because the waterfall is created by water pouring from the Adonis River, AKA Nahar Abraham, it is claimed to represent the birth and death of Adonis, the Phoenician deity of beauty and passion.

3. Ayn Athum, Oman

Ayn Athum is a waterfall in Salalah, Oman, located in the Dhofar Governorate. It’s only visible during the monsoon season, but when it rains, it rushes through the beautiful green forest of Jabal Qara and onto the lake below. The location appears to be one of the Sultanate’s most beautiful vistas from above, resembling a slice of paradise on Earth. In fact, the location is one of the main tourist spots in the region, with guided excursions available.
