Apart from road trips, even caravan tourism or campervans have taken the travel industry by storm. Roadhouse Campervan helmed by Sidharth Varman will pave the way for every traveller’s comfy, eco-friendly travel across the country. Here’s his story of how an uncomfortable road trip led him to design his own campervan.
Inspiration To Turn Van Into Campervan
Sidharth Varmana professional in the automotive industry had been going on road trips for 15 years. The avid traveller revealed to The Better India that he went on jungle safaris, was part of the tiger census and loved offroading with his gang. During these road trips, he faced accommodation issues in one situation and a lack of proper shower and bathroom amenities in the other. This inspired him to build his own campervan.

Influenced By European Campervan Culture
While he yearned to build his own campervan to comfortably and indulgently go on road trips, his plan didn’t see fruition until the Covid-19 lockdown. During the lockdown, Siddharth dived deep into European campervan culture. So, when he decided to design his own campervan, he drew design inspiration from campervans in Europe. He revealed to The Better India, that unlike other campervans that offered a luxurious experience, he wanted to give a homely yet an outdoorsy feel to his campervan. So, he consulted an architect suggesting design ideas and where he can procure materials for the same.

Building Tamil Nadu’s First Custom Built Off Grid Campervan
Sidharth Varmana immersed himself fully to fulfil his dream. He even quit his job in the automobile industry to start his campervan rental service. He bought a van and even did the plumbing, and electrical work himself as he couldn’t find proper manpower. He spent hours working on his campervan. Finally, in 2020, he launched Roadhouse Campervan rental service, Tamil Nadu’s first custom-built off-grid campervan. His campervan has a wonderful cabin-like feel that is equipped with a kitchenette, gas and burner stove, bed, lounging area, bathroom and even charging points, so people could have workations.
