In light of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 241 passengers on the fatal AI171 flight of Air India the previous week, the airline has been in the news constantly. In fact, it has been in the news for several reasons, a lot of them being in regard to the flights returning to the airport after taking off. These were because to multiple reasons, ranging from the closure of airspace to technical snags. So, here’s the number of times the airline was in the news in the past few days.
1. Air India From San Fransisco To Mumbai Delayed
On Tuesday, June 17, an Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai incurred a technical snag. This was in one of the engines; as a result, passengers had to deplane during the scheduled stop at Kolkata Airport. The snag, therefore, delayed its own departure.
2. Air India Express Flight To Kolkata Delayed
In an Air India Express flight to Kolkata, over 170 passengers were stranded at the Guwahati Airport. This happened on Saturday, when the flight was scheduled to depart from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 9:20 pm. But the flight was delayed for more than 18 hours due to a technical glitch. This flight finally took off at 3:34 pm on Sunday.
3. Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Thailand
A Delhi-bound flight from Phuket to Delhi made an emergency landing in Thailand on Friday, June 13. This was done after a bomb threat was received on board! As it happens, all the passengers were safely disembarked, which was followed by a thorough security screening. The threat on the flight was later confirmed to be a hoax.
4. No AC On Jaipur To Dubai Flight
A viral video on social media showed how passengers were sweating in a Jaipur-Dubai Air India flight. Criticising the airlines, passengers were unhappy with the air conditioning failure. Some passengers said that they were stranded for 5+ hours on Flight number IX196 with no AC or communication.
5. Air India Flight To Delhi Returns To Hong Kong
This was on an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight (AI-315) which headed to Delhi from Hong Kong, on Monday, June 16. However, the flight returned to the airport after a suspected technical malfunction was detected mid-air. The flight had returned to Hong Kong safely.
6. Passengers Stranded On Mumbai-Ahmedabad Flight
An Air India Express flight IX 2475 created an unpleasant travel experience for passengers. It was scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on Sunday. But after waiting for hours at the airport, their journey came to a halt!. This happened because the flight got cancelled, as the crew had exceeded their duty time limit.

7. Air India Express Flight From Delhi To Ranchi Returns
The flight from Delhi to Ranchi returned to the airport after taking off on Monday, June 16. It happened due to a technical glitch. After further inspections and clearances, the flight was cleared to fly.
8. Kolkata-Hindon Air India Express Flight Delayed
This flight from Kolkata to Hindon in Ghaziabad was delayed due to a snag on the aircraft. An issue that took place on Sunday, the airline later released a short statement apologising for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.
