Trend Suggests Rich Tourists Are Leaning Towards Ecotourism In 2023. Here’s What Ecotourism Is!

Since the pandemic, certain changes have been observed in global travel trends, especially in luxury travel. Recently, a report was released in Cannes, France, at the International Luxury Travel Market trade show on the 6th of December. The report was released in partnership with Altiant – a luxury market research firm – and American Express. According to this report, the global trends in luxury travel are shifting more towards meaningful connections, conscious tourism, and wellness. This means that rich tourists are planning to spend more on Ecotourism in 2023.

What Is Ecotourism?

If you’ve been to any extremely famous tourist attraction, you know how littered and dirty these spots can get. An increase in tourists in any area also means an increase in different kinds of pollution in that area. It can wreak havoc on the local ecological balance. But tourism doesn’t have to be environmentally destructive.

Ecotourism is a form of tourism which involves being mindful of environmental concerns while travelling. It involves incorporating more environment-friendly methods of travelling. Simply put, it consists of responsible travel in natural areas, environment conservation and being generally environmentally aware. It also involves contributing to the improvement of the well-being of the local people.

Rich Tourists To Spend More on Ecotourism In 2023

Among many other things, the illuminating report also revealed that a large portion of wealthy travellers continues to prefer splurging on travel and experiences, instead of goods. In keeping with this, close to 60% of wealthy tourists are intending to travel more in 2023. Only 10% of the people surveyed said they aim to reduce their travelling. What’s more, is that most of these people are planning to focus more on eco-tourism. This means that post-pandemic, there’s an increase in the concerns surrounding the climate crisis and environmental change.

Health And Safety, The Major Factor In Choosing a Destination

The number one concern of these tourists in picking out a travel destination is health and safety. It seems that this specific concern that has risen in the post-pandemic world is here to stay. These concerns include fear of discrimination as well as concerns regarding security.
