Bengaluru’s 102-Year-Old MTR’s Malaysia Outlet Named MICHELIN Bib Gourmand 2027

MTR Malaysia, the international branch of the iconic Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, a legendary 102-year-old eatery from Bengaluru, has now been named a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand 2027. The recognition highlights the branch’s hospitality and its authentic South Indian vegetarian food, which it serves to hundreds of diners. Here’s what the recognition means.

Founded in 1924, Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) began its journey in Bengaluru and now has branches in many countries, including Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and more. But the good news is that MTR Malaysia has now been named a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand 2027, which is a big deal for any eatery.

Unlike MICHELIN Stars, which recognise exceptional cooking, the Bib Gourmand spotlights high-quality food served at a reasonable price. Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, also known as Little India, the restaurant operates under the name MTR 1924 Malaysia. The branch uses the same time-honoured recipes that made Bengaluru’s MTR famous. These include the legendary Rava Idli and its signature ghee-laden Masala Dosa.

Apart from this, the restaurant also serves Khara Bhath, Curd Rice, meals featuring rasam, papad, payasam and rice, Benne Dosa, Bisi Bele Bath and, of course, MTR’s signature South Indian coffee, which no one can really skip.
